The portrait is of my good friend Derek. Derek is an Amsterdam based comedian who’s currently enjoying success with his viral social media videos under the name of Lets Double Dutch. He transforms himself into many characters as he explores humorous stereotypes within the Dutch and expat community. For this portrait I asked him to pose as a type of person I regularly meet whilst hiking or camping in Noord-Holland… The guy who wants to tell you that their knowledge, experience, equipment or whatever is better than yours. Gatekeeping in the world of outdoor adventure sports is a problem, and one which excludes many people from enjoying being out in nature.
