This self-portrait was created during a time of finding myself. My grandma used to criticize me for having the habit of painting myself prettier and more pleasant than I am in real life. Thus I decided to portray myself in a raw and authentic shape: during my morning ritual of putting my contact lenses in, a weirdly dramatic and tearful sight that I would normally not show people unprompted. I didn’t come to Amsterdam with the intention of finding myself yet I have noticed that chance and development is inevitable in a city like Amsterdam. I am finding myself looking forward to reaching unashamed authenticity through my time living here.
