“Monday Blue” was for me a painting the soul of Amsterdam’s nightlife and the daytime of a working neighbourhood. Inspired by the vibrant energy pulsating through Amsterdam West, particularly around non existing places now like De School and De Marktkantine, this artwork encapsulates the bittersweet transition from weekend revelry to weekday routine.
In the eyes of the figures depicted in “Monday Blue,” one can discern a poignant mix of nostalgia for the fading weekend and the eager anticipation of returning to the vibrant nightlife that defines Amsterdam’s cultural landscape, I sought to capture not just a face, but the essence of a community caught between the euphoria of the present and the uncertainty of the future.
These are not merely individuals; they are archetypes of urban life—dreamers, seekers, and lovers of the night. Their faces reflect the hopes, dreams, and yearnings of a generation navigating the complexities of modern existence.
