Prizes

There are four prize categories: Best Group Portrait, Best Individual Portrait, Public Prize, and Youth Prize. The cash prizes vary per category, with a total of €1,000 for Best Group Portrait and Best Individual Portrait, and €500 for Public Prize and Youth Prize.

The winners are selected by an expert panel of judges and through online public voting. The professional jury includes well-known figures in the art world, including Babs Gons, Sioe Jeng Tsao, Raquel van Haver, Marwan Magroun, Aukje Dekker, and Jan Hoek. Public voting will commence when the competition concludes on May 13, 2024.

The winners not only receive cash prizes but also a special place in the 'Faces of North Holland' exhibitions at the Amsterdam Museum (2024) and the Frans Hals Museum (2025). Additionally, there might be a selection of other submissions added to the exhibition.

De Publieksprijs wordt bepaald door online publieksstemmingen. Het publiek heeft de mogelijkheid om te stemmen op hun favoriete portret. Iedere bezoeker mag 1 keer stemmen. Het stemmen kan nadat de wedstrijd is geopend en sluit op 13 mei 2024.

The voting period runs until Sunday, June 9. Votes received after this date will not be counted.

The winners are determined based on the number of votes each portrait receives within the voting period.

The winners of the portrait contest will be announced on July 25, 2024. Before that time, the winners will receive an email from us.

No, once you have voted with an email address, the vote cannot be changed.

The winner will receive a prominent place in exhibitions at the Amsterdam Museum (2024) and the Frans Hals Museum (2025), as well as a cash prize worth €500.

During and after the voting period, the vote counts are not visible. They will be made public during the announcement of all winners - end of July.

Elke deelnemer mag slechts één stem uitbrengen. We registreren het IP-adres om dit te controleren. Bij meerdere stemmen vanaf hetzelfde IP-adres, e-mailadres of naam, wordt alleen de eerste stem behouden en de overige verwijderd. Deze maatregel is ter bescherming van de integriteit van het stemproces en uw privacy.
About the contest

Everyone is invited to participate, regardless of experience as an artist, photographer, writer, or filmmaker. Participation is free, and there are no associated costs.

The portrait competition starts on Monday, February 5, 2024, and closes on Sunday, May 12, 2024.

Zolang de inzendingen de nieuwe gezichten van Noord-Holland vastleggen, zijn er geen specifieke vereisten voor de ingezonden portretten. Het is een multimediale wedstrijd, dus de ingezonden portretten kunnen alles zijn. Een aantal voorbeelden zijn; een foto, olieverfschilderij, gedicht, video, ets, tekening, animatie en ga zo maar door.
De inzendingen moeten echter wel voldoen aan de rules en de algemene voorwaarden van de wedstrijd.

The competition focuses on capturing the new faces of North Holland. Submissions from outside this province may not be eligible.

The work can't be older than three years. It's okay if it has been exhibited.

Participating in the exhibition is simple. You can submit a photo, video, text, or audio clip through the button. If you've used a different medium to create your portrait, make sure to take a good photo of it. When submitting a photo or video, ensure that if recognizable individuals are present, they have given consent for its use.

At the moment, we cannot accept physical objects. However, you can take a photo of the artwork and upload it. If your work is selected, it may be chosen to be displayed during the exhibitions.

You can use an artist name when registering. However, you must let us know who you are. This is due to copyright reasons and in case we have any questions about your submission. This information will not be visible to website visitors

All registrations are checked and verified by us. We do this from Monday to Friday. After that, the registration will appear on the website automatically. You will not receive an additional notification. If there is any issue with the registration, we will contact you.

You always have the right to have your submission removed. If you are unintentionally or unlawfully depicted in a submission, please inform us immediately. Send the link to the page to portretwedstrijd@gvnh.nl.

No, there is no age restriction. However, the Youth Prize is specifically intended for the best entry from younger participants (UP TO 18 YEARS OLD). If you are a minor, you need parental consent. You can do this by checking the box indicating that you are under 18 and adding your parents' email address

No, edits after the submission deadline will not be accepted. Ensure that your submission is complete and final before submitting. If there is a genuine issue, you can email the link of the page and the desired changes to portretwedstrijd@gvnh.nl.

You can also submit your entry via email. However, we strongly encourage you to use the submission form on the website. If you need assistance, you can also call the secretariat of the Frans Hals Museum. If you still prefer to send an email, you can do so at portretwedstrijd@gvnh.nl.

You can't submit more that 5 portraits.
Afterwards

No, participants retain ownership of their submitted works. However, permission is asked for their use in the exhibitions.

In addition to the winning portraits, the remaining submitted portraits also have the opportunity to get a spot in the exhibitions.
