About the portraitcontest
The Frans Hals Museum and the Amsterdam Museum are joining forces to add new portraits and stories from North Holland to their exhibitions. Historical portraits in the museums tell interesting stories and bring the past to life. But let's be honest, the time of these artworks is long gone, and many of us no longer feel connected to these old portraits. That's why it's high time for fresh faces and new, untold stories. We believe that a museum visit should be relatable for everyone, and for that, we need YOU!
The portrait contest is an invitation to everyone ‘to capture the faces and stories in North Holland; whether it's a photo, video, poem, audio, or something else – you have complete freedom! Experience or not, everyone is welcome to participate and submit a (group) portrait! The winners are getting a special spot in the exhibitions at the Amsterdam Museum (2024) and the Frans Hals Museum (2025), and will also receive a prize per category.
