'Woman op top' (2022) from our jury member Aukje Dekker (visual artist, co-founder of Sociëteit Sexyland) consists of many small strips of paper with the words 'I have to work harder.' She pasted thousands of strips onto a large photo collage of portraits of Amsterdam mayors. All men. She did this until the mayors were completely obscured behind the strips. No longer visible, but still present. 'I have to work harder' is a suggestive statement that can represent both the first female mayor of the city: does she have to work harder than the men who came before her? It can also symbolize a society that is moving ever faster or a self-critical look at one's own achievements. Woman on top is a documentary of the city and the role of women in governance, but also of the performance-oriented society.
